K&L Gates Adds Prominent Public Policy Professional in Pittsburgh Office

Pittsburgh- The Pittsburgh office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Terrence J. Murphy as a government affairs counselor in the firm’s public policy and law practice. Murphy most recently served as president of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Maryland.

An executive with Columbia Gas for nearly 30 years, Murphy has earned a reputation as a prominent advocate and driving force for collaborative policy development within the utility industry. He served in a number of roles with the company, providing leadership and strategic direction for regulatory policy, governmental affairs, communications, community relations, and economic development. As president, Murphy developed a major 20-year infrastructure replacement program. Earlier in his career, he led the team seeking regulatory approvals for the acquisition of the Columbia Energy Group by NiSource, securing support for the transaction among Pennsylvania and Maryland public utility, legislative, and governmental bodies.

Prior to joining Columbia, Murphy worked with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, including serving as executive director of the House Federal-State Relations Committee and as a research analyst with the House Energy Committee. He is the immediate past chair to and continues to serve on the board of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, as well as numerous other state and regional business and non-profit organizations.
